Song Limits

AuthorBy Adam on Sep 8, 2025

Using SongBoard to plan events gives your hosts a lot of power. They can share notes, song requests, answer questions, share the event timeline and more.

But when you give them all that power, sometimes they can go a little too wild. 😂

That's why we let you set song limits to any songs section for events.

What are Song Limits?

In SongBoard, song limits are the maximum number of songs that can be added to a songs section.

They can be used to give your hosts an idea of how many songs they should pick out for a section or to restrict them from picking out too many songs.

Song limits can be set on any card's song section, or on the event as the "default song limit" (which applies to all cards with song sections that haven't set their own song limit).

How to Set Song Limits on a Card

To set a song limit for a card, navigate to the Board page for an event, and click on the card to open it.

Then, scroll down to the "Songs" section (if there is no songs section, you'll need to add that section to the card).

Song Limit Menu on Card

Click the 3 dots in the header of the "Songs" section to reveal a menu, and select "Song Limit".

Setting the Song Limit for a Card

Enter a number (between 1 and 200) to restrict this songs section to that many songs, or leave the field blank to remove the song limit (or if the default song limit is set, it will use that instead).

Song Limit Indicator

After saving, you'll see the card now shows the limit on the board. For example, if the limit is 10, you'll see the card say "0/10" indicating there are 0 songs picked out of a maximum of 10 songs.

Whenever there is a song limit in place, you'll see that indicator.

How to Set The Default Song Limit

You can set the default song limit for the whole event by visiting an event and visiting the "Settings" page.

Default Song Limit on Event Settings Page

When you set the default song limit for an event, it means any card in the event that has a songs section, that does not have it's own song limit will use the default song limit.

Setting the Default Song Limit

When the song limit is not set, it will default to SongBoard's default value of 200 (the maximum amount of songs that can be added to a songlist). You can always go back to no song limit by clearing the field, leaving it blank, and clicking "Save".

Conclusion

Song limits are great for letting your hosts know around how many songs they should be picking for sections.

Between setting the song limit on individual cards and on the event (as the default song limit), it's easy to make sure all your cards are marked with their limits.
